Handmade Murrini & Underwater Aquarium Glass Beads

Even though making these beads takes a long time, a lot of work and concentration, (and can even be downright stressful at times!), they have become my all time favorite beads to make….thus far. 😉

No two of these beads are exactly the same so each of them is a one-of-a-kind, very special piece.

I build them murrini by murrini, rarely choosing the chips in advance. I like to be spontaneous and pick the murrini chips as I go along building the bead. Here’s a picture of the pile of murrini I have to choose from as I make a bead:

I also regularly make new murrini to add to my stash of chips to choose from. Here are some recent designs I made (these are currently available on Etsy):

New Handmade Glass Murrini Chips

Remember that Dunkin Donuts commercial years ago where the baker begrudgingly murmurs in the wee hours of the morning, “time to make the donuts”? Well for me it was “time to make more murrini” since my Etsy shop was getting low on stock.

But of course I am not at all begrudged (is that a word?) about it like that guy was. In fact, just the opposite. Lately I have been bursting with lots of color combination ideas for new murrini designs. If only I had more time at the torch!

Here are a few new murrini designs just added to my Etsy shop this week:

3D Holographic Silver Glass Murrini

I added two new murrini designs to the shop today – both are made with transparent silver glass and layered in such a way that when applied they look like dimensional floating sea creatures.

SEA JELLY – silver glass murrini
SEA FLOWER – silver glass murrini

I’ve also brought back a very limited quantity of my most popular Starlight murrini in a swirl pattern:

Handmade Murrini Chips for Lampwork Glass Artists – COE 104

I try to make murrini as often as I can so I can use it in my own lampwork bead designs. But with each batch I always end up with much more than I will ever use myself. So I offer the extra to other lampwork glass artists 🙂

Here are a few new designs I recently made:

Antique Lilac – handmade murrini chips
Blueberry Hill – handmade murrini chips
Smoke – handmade murrini chips

For those of you who would like to make your own murrini chips, I wrote a detailed tutorial earlier this year which covers every aspect of making handmade murrini step-by-step from A to Z. Available on Etsy 😀

New Summertime Glass Murrini

Making glass murrini is hit or miss for me.

There are times when I think that a combination of colors will look great together but once made, pulled, cut, and tested I am sometimes disappointed to find that the end result did not turn out as well as I hoped it would.

I have spent many, many, (many!) hours making murrini cane that just end up getting stashed away in my ‘failed attempts’ jar – after all that time spent on them, I simply don’t have the heart to throw them away. 🙂

So when I make murrini that actually comes out beautifully you can imagine how excited I am!

Here are two recent lampwork glass murrini successes in new color combinations for Summer:
