Purple Passion Beads

With the type of glass I use it is often tricky to find a wide selection of nice, rich purple colors. You usually have to get pretty creative layering different colors of glass to achieve the shades you’re after. This batch of beads was a challenge to see how much variation of purple I could get into each bead without repeating the same murrini too often.

This resulted in a nice mix of purple, violet, lilac, lavender and other colors that went nicely together such as amber, ivory and purple; aqua, indigo blue and purple, etc.

Unfortunately there aren’t many beads to choose from in this batch – not because of the issue with purple glass, but mainly because of our hot summer weather!

In years past I have taken the entire summer off from torching because it is nearly impossible to do when it’s 100+ degrees. Especially when you add on the heat coming off the torch, kiln, and bead warmer! And the older I get, the less tolerant I am of these conditions and would just rather hibernate in the air conditioning until the weather changes. 😀

But when you have a passion for making beads, and have new ideas that are nagging at you, it’s hard to wait out the heat. Our high summer temperatures typically last well into October and sometimes early November!

This summer has been no different heat-wise. But I have been trying to catch a cool-ish morning or two now and then so I can torch for at least a little while. This way I have some beads to share, as few as they may be…

These are available on Etsy. Enjoy!

Encased Murrini Bracelet Beads & Necklace Beads

I have gotten a few requests lately to re-visit my original round bead necklaces featuring encased murrini. I am happy to oblige as they are so much fun to make. So little by little I’ve been adding this design back into my workflow and offering them on Etsy again. 🙂

Of course, I also have some more bracelet beads 😉

These beads will be listed on Etsy today, 7/25/2014 at 4:00pm PST. Thanks for looking! 😀

New Batch of Big Hole Beads on Etsy…Minus One :’-(

Sadly, my already small batch of beads that I had made to go up on Etsy this week got even smaller. One beautiful bead did not survive the coring process (as sometimes happens).

It happened to be one of my favorites…. But for me it’s not all bad news. Though I don’t get to share it with those of you who I know love these big hole beads – the plus side for me is I actually get to keep it! 😀

I will proudly add it to my own bracelet that is filled with big hole beads that didn’t make the cut for one reason or another. Despite their flaws, I still really enjoy them and love looking at them. 🙂

These beads are available now on Etsy

…except for this one that I cannot sell, but that will find a good home on my bracelet:

How Many Murrini Can Fit Into One Bracelet Bead?

That IS the question – at least for me it is lately! Of course, the short answer is, “as many as I possibly can!”. 😀

I definitely push the limits of what these little beads can hold – I try to keep the overall size of the bead at or under 1/2″ x 3/4″ which is already a little on the big side for standard Pandora sized beads. In my opinion, though, I think the trade off a slightly bigger size is definitely worth it for the extra eye candy all those murrini chips give you in a single bead.

So if you can forgive the ‘generous’ size of my encased murrini bracelet beads I think you’ll truly love these little beauties. They add so much color, interest, and fun to your already beautiful Pandora-style bracelets 🙂

Encased Flower Murrini Big Hole Beads

Maybe it’s the warmer weather (we were in the 90’s the other day!), but this week I was inspired to make a few large hole beads with my handmade flower murrini. These particular murrini are incredibly painstaking to make because they involve so many steps – but the results are worth it. When encased in clear glass they come alive and have so much detail and beauty. 🙂

I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them –
