Big Hole Encased Murrini Beads – European Charms

Someone once told me that trees give the best display of color during the Fall after a very cold winter. I’m not sure if that’s true or not here in SoCal, but I have noticed that we are not getting much color from our trees this Fall, and we had a very mild winter last year. So maybe there is something to it…

Because I’m in Los Angeles I don’t really expect a gloriously colored Fall show – but there have been years when it has been so beautiful! The trees around here don’t really start changing much until November anyway, and it only lasts a couple weeks when it does occur.

Sadly, this year, it seems as though most trees are going directly from green to brown leaves 😦  I have heard rumors that this winter is supposed to be particularly cold – so while it may not be that much fun living through it, (although I do prefer cold weather to hot), at least I know it will be worth it next Fall 😀

Hard to think that far ahead when it’s still 88 degrees outside today :-\

In the meantime, here are some new encased murrini beads to brighten your day (which may not be all that sunny and warm in your neck of the woods). All beads are available now on Etsy! 🙂

Encased Murrini Beads for Fall

It’s hard to describe, but there is a distinct change in the air when Fall arrives here in SoCal.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re still having some way-too-hot-for-this-time-of-year days. But the change is happening. Those hot days are becoming less frequent and we are even having chilly mornings and evenings. I almost (not yet, but almost!) put my Uggs on when my feet were cold one morning this week. 😀

Did everyone catch the photo I posted on Facebook of my cute pup Yogi after he came back from the groomer yesterday? They always put him in a cute little bandana. Just thought I’d mention that…  🙂

Since it was still so hot last week I was not able to get too many beads made. :-\

Purple Passion Beads

With the type of glass I use it is often tricky to find a wide selection of nice, rich purple colors. You usually have to get pretty creative layering different colors of glass to achieve the shades you’re after. This batch of beads was a challenge to see how much variation of purple I could get into each bead without repeating the same murrini too often.

This resulted in a nice mix of purple, violet, lilac, lavender and other colors that went nicely together such as amber, ivory and purple; aqua, indigo blue and purple, etc.

Unfortunately there aren’t many beads to choose from in this batch – not because of the issue with purple glass, but mainly because of our hot summer weather!

In years past I have taken the entire summer off from torching because it is nearly impossible to do when it’s 100+ degrees. Especially when you add on the heat coming off the torch, kiln, and bead warmer! And the older I get, the less tolerant I am of these conditions and would just rather hibernate in the air conditioning until the weather changes. 😀

But when you have a passion for making beads, and have new ideas that are nagging at you, it’s hard to wait out the heat. Our high summer temperatures typically last well into October and sometimes early November!

This summer has been no different heat-wise. But I have been trying to catch a cool-ish morning or two now and then so I can torch for at least a little while. This way I have some beads to share, as few as they may be…

These are available on Etsy. Enjoy!

Encased Murrini Bracelet Beads & Necklace Beads

I have gotten a few requests lately to re-visit my original round bead necklaces featuring encased murrini. I am happy to oblige as they are so much fun to make. So little by little I’ve been adding this design back into my workflow and offering them on Etsy again. 🙂

Of course, I also have some more bracelet beads 😉

These beads will be listed on Etsy today, 7/25/2014 at 4:00pm PST. Thanks for looking! 😀

Encased Murrini Bead Pendants

I am loving these interchangeable bead pendants 😀 The are perfect for showcasing handmade lampwork by taking a bead from beautiful to wow! The best part is that you can mix and match your own beads on them to create a number of different looks just from one pendant.

This week I’ve added a couple new encasing murrini beads to Etsy, pairing two of them with an interchangeable bead pendant, along with one loose focal bead (which could be added to a bead pendant!) 😉
